“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come.”
–Paul (2 Cor. 5:17)
Interesting title isn’t it? Usually we expect to read, especially at the beginning of the year, “A New Beginning.” This title was inspired by a quote in an article I read recently that said, “No one can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and have a new ending.”
As much as I want to, I cannot give you any of this year back. I cannot start it over for you; change the tragedies; greaten the blessings; deepen the friendships; or lessen the temptations. You and I are no longer in charge of the seconds that have passed us by, but the new ones that approach will reach our hope filled spirits with endless possibilities.
Paul tells us that regardless of who we have been, we can and are NEW IN CHRIST! We are NEW CREATIONS! That means regardless of how this past year has turned out, we get a newness that starts before 2013 hits us.
Changing our tomorrows starts today. Being filled with the gifts of the spirit doesn’t need a new year or a big event to solicit change, it just takes a pair of knees, humble heart, and a single prayer.
As we look back uncontent about who we were this past year, we can look forward to the hope filled possibilities of a fresh start today! Don’t wait for a new year to be a new creation! Let’s strive together to give Christ full reign over our lives that, “the Lord–who is the Spirit–makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.” (2 Cor. 3:18)
